Silksong a disappointing masterpiece at the end of the day. Game features discover a whole new kingdom! But then if silksong is a sequel, hornet wouldn't be alive during silksong So, team cherry will either have to pick a true ending to either hollow knight or silksong, which would indicate whether it is a prequel or a sequel or they would have to make every silksong ending compatible with hk which would mean that silksong is a prequel.
The main issue is that they had a fairly extensive playable demo 5 years ago, which is a longer period than the entire development of the first game
So they either made silksong massively more ambitious, or they ran into issues which made them scrap and rework a lot of things.
